I honestly did not know what to expect when I picked this one up. The description sounded strange. A man with OCD. A mouse running across a control panel. Cookies that cause psychosis. It felt like a lot. But I am so glad I gave it a chance.This book is quirky in the best way. It follows Foxavier, a man trying to navigate life while battling OCD and isolation. He goes through counseling programs and meets all these odd, memorable characters that you cannot help but get attached to. The humor is offbeat and the writing has this playful energy that keeps you turning pages.And then there is the whole cookie subplot. A mouse runs across a control panel at a food corporation and changes the settings on a machine. The result is a batch of cookies with too much tri-benzene-deliciouside. They get released onto store shelves and anyone who eats them ends up with psychosis. It sounds ridiculous but it works. It is absurd and dark and funny all at once.What I loved most is how the author balances the humor with real heart. The story deals with isolation and mental health but never feels heavy. It treats the subject with care while still being entertaining. Foxavier is a character you root for. You want him to find connection. You want him to find Plinka.The book is also full of clever wordplay and puns. Some of the character names made me laugh out loud. It is clear the author had fun writing this and that energy comes through on every page.it is not a perfect book. The tone is unusual and it might not be for everyone. But if you enjoy weird, imaginative storytelling with heart, this one is worth your time. It is one of those books that stays with you after you finish.I am definitely going to check out more from this author.
